The House Archive

Welcome to The House Archive - the place to enter and search for information about your house, a house you once lived in, or any other house of interest to you.  Many houses have fascinating histories or features, but unless they are of "outstanding" historical or architectural interest, they will be uncelebrated.

If you know something of interest about a house, or have an old picture of a house, create a page and put it on this site for others to look at and comment on. If the house your are interested in is already here, add information or pictures to the page it is on or leave a comment.

We are featured in Local History Online and also in the August 2007 edition of Local History Magazine. Click this link to see the online article.

Do you live in an interesting house, or know of a house with an interesting history? You can share your knowledge on this website.

The House Archive is brand new, and is offering The Sunday Telegraph Guide to Looking After Your Property by Jeff Howell to the first five people to add a page about their house, with pictures. Find out more

In some cases the houses on this site are of wide historic interest ; in others individual houses or whole streets may be threatened with demolition or loss of character and you may wish to generate publicity about their value; or they may be common-or-garden houses or streets with little apparent interest beyond your immediate neighbourhood or family.

By adding information and photographs to this site you will be contributing to the historical record about our built environment that will be invaluable to historians, researchers and anyone with an interest in local history or their local area.

This website uses standard text editing tools familiar to anyone who has used a word processing package, so no one is excluded from adding content to this site. All we ask is that you register with us first, before adding content.

When creating a page, please put the place name of the house you are writing about first in the title box, to allow for easier location on our alphabetical index page.

You can add information or pictures to existing pages, create new pages or just browse for information and pictures on houses of interest.
